If you have a gigabyte motherboard from the GA p31 chipset range, one
tool you must have is thier Easytune 5 pro application. Yes it is quite
old now but thats primarily why it's so good because. It isn't to big
on the safety front- obvioulsy theres a disclaimer saying if you ruin
your processor and board, dont blame Gigabyte, which is fair enough to
be honest. But you wont ever have to worry about that anyway.
The performance gains are significant, and if you have a gigabyte
board, Easytune 5 Pro is a free piece of software and it allows people
who are serios about over clocking their computers to get even more out
of it, im just using the simple easy mode and you don't have to worry
about damaging your processor. All you need to do is keep ramping it up
till it hangs. this WON'T ruin your processor, Gigabyte Technology have a whole
write up in their board manuals, All there recent or decent boards have
lots of fail-safe features, which prevent damages happening due to
"careless" overclocking. And once you find the point where it hangs you
don't need to go above that anyway. Quite simply because you can no use a
frozen computer.
The other tool I'd recommend is for Gainward Graphics Cards, again the older the overclocking software the better.
Expertool works with all Gainward Graphics cards, alot of other
graphics cards have a lot of Overclocking potential, but if you buy a
"golden Sample" version, only a little bit more expensive than normal.
the card has been designed with overclocking in mind, with a huge cooler
plate, you can see it in the photos- this is a huge graphics card.
The only things you ever really need to keep in mind when it comes to
over-clocking your computer is have you got a decent power supply?
anything over 600w or "heavy duty is good, and have you got sufficent
cooling? again, plenty of fans and an airy space around your computer
tower is good.
The great thing is with modern technology and everyone trying to get a
little bit more out of their boards for the money, manufacturers have
taken this into account, hence all the overclocking facilities and
safety features built into the boards, so you never have to
worry.Gigabyte actively encourage overclocking which is reassuring and
asus are getting there too.
